JVS SoCal Raises $1.3M+ For Human Services and Career Training Programs at 26th Annual Strictly Business Dinner

Los Angeles, May 30, 2025 – Last night, JVS SoCal hosted its 26th Annual Strictly Business Awards Dinner at the Skirball Cultural Center, honoring outstanding individuals and corporations in our community who exemplify social responsibility and philanthropy. The annual celebration raises funds to support JVS SoCal’s mission of empowering individuals through sustainable employment via innovative and impactful programs and services.

Jack Suzar, partner at Bel Air Investment Advisors and former JVS SoCal Board President, received the Founder’s Award.

“My professional life as an investment advisor has taught me a great deal about value,” said Suzar, “but it is through service—through time spent helping others—that I’ve come to understand the true meaning of worth.” Suzar added that he was raised to believe that giving back is not just a privilege—it’s a responsibility.

“Through his support and leadership, Jack Suzar has left an indelible mark on JVS SoCal and our shared vision of thriving communities with hope and economic opportunity for all,” said JVS SoCal Chief Executive Officer Jeff Carr. The Founder’s Award honors a community leader who has demonstrated exceptional philanthropic leadership in service to JVS SoCal, its clients, and the broader Los Angeles community.

This year’s Corporate Partnership Award was presented to First Citizens Bank, an institution that has partnered with JVS SoCal to support career development initiatives that help individuals overcome employment barriers.

“As First Citizens Bank continues its mission to invest in the well-being of the communities it serves, this recognition highlights the importance of collaboration in creating career pathways that foster community-wide growth and opportunity,” said JVS SoCal Board Chair John Karp.

“This recognition belongs to all my incredible colleagues,” said Rans Tenorio, Senior Vice President of Regional Sales Consultants, who accepted the award on behalf of First Citizens Bank. “It reflects your dedication to community engagement—your countless hours of volunteering, mentoring, and collaborating with purpose.”

Attendees also honored two program participants who have overcome adversity to build sustainable and fulfilling careers, receiving Strictly Business Inspiration Awards:

Veronica David, who launched a successful banking career through one of JVS SoCal’s signature no-cost career training programs.

Kristina Ruff, a U.S. Army veteran and mother of three, who overcame significant challenges including incarceration and homelessness.
