In response to the LA County Board of Supervisors passing Supervisor Janice Hahn’s motion awarding additional funding to JVS SoCal for Refugee Employment and Acculturation Services, Chief Executive Jeff Carr issued the following statement:
“The recent motion by the chair of the LA County Board of Supervisors, Sup. Hahn, awarding additional funding to JVS SoCal for Refugee Employment and Acculturation Services is a clear statement of how they value refugees and asylees.
“Expanding the Refugee Employment and Acculturation Services (REAS) contract will allow us to reduce the unprecedented caseloads and place more participants in jobs while helping families adapt in their new home.
“The support that JVS will receive through increased funding will impact those with boots on the ground, improving processes and relieving stress from the increased number of people seeking asylum. We would especially like to thank Dr. Jackie Contreras and the entire Department of Public Social Services for responding quickly to the growing needs of the community.
“Furthermore, we applaud the county for pursuing an expanded presence in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. on behalf of our refugees, with so many new arrivals coming to major urban centers like greater Los Angeles, state and federal funding can deliver on the much-needed American Recovery Act promise.”
Refugee Employment and Acculturation Services (REAS) Capacity Enhancements was introduced by Janice Hann on Tuesday, June 27, at the Board Regular Meeting.
