JVS Bay Area and JVS SoCal partner to offer medical imaging job training program for the first time in the Bay Area

ImagingWorks is an on-the-job training program designed to prepare participants for in-demand medical imaging technician careers; applications are now open for the October 2025 cohort

SAN FRANCISCO, August 6, 2025 — JVS Bay Area, a nonprofit working to close opportunity gaps in employment, announced today the launch of ImagingWorks, an 11-week medical imaging career training program for Northern California jobseekers offered in partnership with JVS SoCal. The program prepares participants to become DEXA (bone density scanning) technicians, with paid on-the-job training opportunities at clinical sites across Northern California. Applications are now open for the October 2025 cohort.

Medical imaging is a fast-growing, stable career pathway with competitive wages and exceptional opportunities for advancement. DEXA technicians play a crucial role in diagnosing bone diseases and assessing fracture risk, but this specialized training also serves as an entry point into the broader medical imaging field. Once certified as DEXA technicians, graduates can pursue additional certifications to become MRI technologists, CT scan technicians, or other specialized imaging professionals — roles that offer even higher earning potential.

Traditional medical imaging programs can cost tens of thousands of dollars, putting quality healthcare careers out of reach for many. JVS’ ImagingWorks program offers an alternative through comprehensive training at no cost to participants, including:

• 11 weeks of combined online learning and hands-on clinical experience

• Paid clinical placement at $21 per hour during training

• MR safety certification training

• Preparation for the California State Certification Exam to work as a DEXA technician

• Extensive job search support throughout and after program completion

• Direct cash assistance to help cover transportation, utilities, and other necessities

Now expanding into Northern California with JVS Bay Area as a partner, JVS SoCal has run three successful cohorts of ImagingWorks. The program leverages the expertise of RadNet, one of the nation’s largest imaging networks, to provide real-world clinical experience in professional healthcare settings. Once accepted into the program, participants are matched with a clinical

site where they will gain hands-on experience with DEXA equipment while learning patient care protocols, medical systems, and safety procedures essential for success in medical imaging careers.

ImagingWorks is the latest of JVS’ many career training programs helping close employment opportunity gaps and improve economic mobility for underserved jobseekers. JVS’ no-cost training programs, paired with support such as paid internships and direct cash assistance, have successfully placed 1,750 jobseekers in high-quality, in-demand jobs over the last six years. Five years after participating in a JVS program, these jobseekers see their earnings increase, on average, by 135%, with an average annual salary of $106,000. In 2023, 90% of JVS jobseekers identified as Black, Latine, Asian, or people of color.

Interested jobseekers can learn more and apply at bit.ly/jvsimaging. The program is open to California jobseekers who can commute to clinic sites daily. There are clinic sites throughout the Bay Area, as well as in Sacramento and Modesto.

JVS staff and program participants are available to discuss the ImagingWorks program, as well as JVS’ other career training programs. Interviews available in English and Spanish. To set up an interview or learn more, contact Haley Kubik at (425) 260-4100 or haley@emccommunications.com.
