Dear Friends and Family,
Each year, the Debra J. Roth Family and Friends Tribute Scholarship gives us a chance to honor Debbie’s memory while creating opportunities for the students it supports. Last year, together, we raised over $22,000, empowering nine remarkable scholars with resources to help them chase their dreams. What began as a tribute has grown into a tradition that opens new doors each year.
This July, our family had the privilege of attending the JVS SoCal Scholarship Awards Ceremony at Sinai Temple. We left energized and in awe after meeting so many inspiring students. Hearing their stories reminded us why education matters: it changes the trajectory of lives.
Debbie embodied this belief in every part of her life. A Stanford graduate, a brilliant lawyer, and a devoted mother of two daughters—an independent filmmaker and veterinarian—she recognized the transformative power of education. Debbie’s passion and legacy continue to guide this scholarship, year after year.
Your Support, Their Success
I’m thrilled to introduce you to three of our new recipients for the 2025-2026 academic year:

Ella Magen is embarking on year four at Chapman University. She is pursuing an undergraduate degree in preparation for a career in Upper Academia as an Orchestra Director.
Noga Arber is starting her first year at School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is pursuing an undergraduate degree in preparation for a career in Textile Preservation and as a Fiber Arts Teacher.

Abigail Ostad is entering her third year at the University of Southern California. She is pursuing a graduate degree in preparation for a career as a Physician Assistant.
Barbara was recently reminded of the lasting, individual impact of each scholar’s journey when she crossed paths with Alexis, an impressive 2023, 2024, and 2025 recipient working diligently towards a law degree at Loyola Marymount University. (They ran into each other at the doctor’s office—small world!)
By standing behind these students, we’re investing in building brighter futures. Your support means the world to us and those we help empower, and we know Debbie would be deeply touched by the way her memory continues to inspire opportunities for a new generation.
With continued love and appreciation,
Barbara and Ron Lang
