Each year, the Debra J. Roth Family and Friends Tribute Scholarship gives us a chance to honor Debbie’s memory while creating opportunities for the students it supports. Last year, together, we raised more than $30,000, helping expand the impact of the Debra J. Roth Family & Friends Tribute Scholarship that has awarded more than $160,000 to over 50 students since 2017. What began as a tribute has grown into a lasting tradition that continues to open new doors each year.
This July, our family once again had the privilege of attending the JVS SoCal Scholarship Awards Ceremony at Sinai Temple, where more than 200 local Jewish students received scholarships for the 2026–2027 academic year. Meeting these remarkable scholars and reconnecting with students whose journeys we’ve been fortunate to support was a powerful reminder that education changes lives. Hearing students share their educational journeys and aspirations, while witnessing the continued growth of past recipients, reinforced the lasting impact these scholarships have on individuals, families, and communities.
Debbie embodied this belief in every part of her life. A Stanford graduate, a brilliant lawyer, and a devoted mother of two daughters—an independent filmmaker and a veterinarian—she recognized the transformative power of education. Debbie’s passion and legacy continue to guide this scholarship, year after year.

As we begin this year’s campaign, we’re excited to welcome five outstanding scholarship recipients for the 2026-2027 academic year. While every student’s path is unique, each shares a commitment to learning, perseverance, and transforming their future. We look forward to following their educational journeys and seeing all they will accomplish in the years ahead.
