From Congo to California:How HealthWorks helped Niclette restart her caregiving career

As a young woman growing up in the Republic of Congo, Niclette Massamba helped care for her elderly grandparents. In her home country, assisted living facilities are not common; and caring for aging family members is part of life. What began as responsibility soon became a calling.

After moving with her family to Maryland, Niclette pursued that passion and earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential. She was proud to begin building a career centered on compassion and service. But when she later relocated to Los Angeles, she faced an unexpected setback… her certification was not recognized in California.

Determined to continue her work, Niclette discovered JVS SoCal’s HealthWorks, an eight-week, cost-free training program that prepares students for California CNA certification. “It was a Godsend,” she says. The program gave her the skills, confidence, and support she needed to start again.

Through dedication and perseverance, Niclette earned her California certification and returned to the work she loves. Today, she cares for elderly residents in certified facilities throughout Southern California.
