With years of experience in customer-facing roles, Toria was reliable, skilled, and hardworking. Yet despite her strengths, she felt stuck. She knew she was capable of more, but lacked a clear path forward.
Originally from Seattle, Toria moved to Long Beach three years ago in search of opportunity. She worked as a receptionist and administrative assistant at a law firm, managing clerical tasks and multi-line calls while serving as the first point of contact for clients. She also worked a hostess and trainer, once again becoming the welcoming face of an organization.
These roles strengthened her communication skills and professionalism—but they did not offer the growth or long-term stability she was looking for.
Her turning point came when she learned about BankWork$ member. What drew her in was the possibility of building a career where she could continue helping others while creating a more secure future for herself.
BankWork$ changed everything. Through the program, Toria experienced what she describes as a personal breakthrough—not a single moment of victory, but a steady internal shift.
“Being in BankWork$ really showed me what it’s like to show up for myself every day, put my best foot forward,” she shares.
The structure and routine of the program became a foundation for growth in her emerging new career.
“Waking up and choosing myself… choosing this program and choosing my future,” she explains, was one of the most powerful lessons she gained.
Beyond technical training, BankWork$ “has taught me resilience,” she says. The program encouraged Toria not only to prioritize her own goals, but also to continue caring for and supporting others. Practical support played a critical role as well. Getting help from the JVS SoCal staff to develop her resume and mock interviews helped Toria sharpen her skills and present herself with confidence.
“If it wasn’t for those mock interviews, if it wasn’t for that resume building, I would not be the graduate that I am today,” she reflects.
JVS SoCal’s wraparound services—including access to professional clothing — removed additional barriers, allowing Toria to feel prepared and confident as she stepped into interviews.
Today, Toria looks ahead with clarity and purpose. She envisions a future defined by success, peace, and continued growth—without losing sight of who she is.
“The future for me is a successful career… being happy, being at peace, but also never losing who I am,” she says.
For Toria, building a stable career was never about chasing a title—it was about finding confidence, direction, and a future she could truly believe in.
Stories like hers are made possible through programs like BankWorks at JVS SoCal—programs that remove barriers, build confidence, and help individuals choose their future, one day at a time.
