JVS SoCal awarded $500,000 federal grant to increase career opportunities for veterans and spouses

LOS ANGELES – Dec. 9, 2024 — JVS SoCal has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as part of a groundbreaking program designed to enhance career stability and expand employment resources for Veterans and military families. This funding, aligned with First Lady Jill Biden’s Joining Forces initiative, will support efforts to improve transitionassistance for members of the military and their spouses.

“This grant will enable JVS SoCal to bolster our array of career development programs, providing Veterans and their families with the tools needed to navigate the complexities of the civilian job market,” said Kim Fedrick, Chief Program Officer at JVS SoCal. “Extending these services to individuals with these additional circumstances will help lighten the challenges they face in achieving economic independence.”

Key elements of the program include:

  • Career Coaching & Readiness Services: Tailored career services to help Veterans, military spouses, and family members secure meaningful employment in competitive industries.
  • Placement & Training Opportunities: Veterans and their spouses can receive resume assistance, interview training, job search skills development as well as access to transitional jobs, on-the-job training, apprenticeships and no-cost career training programs.
  • Transition Assistance Support: Focused guidance for military spouses, helping them transition into civilian careers while managing the unique challenges of frequent relocations and gaps in employment.

Our programs also connect eligible participants to essential resources like healthcare, housing, childcare, and transportation.

The initiative is part of a larger effort under the Joining Forces program, spearheaded by First Lady Jill Biden, to improve economic opportunities, education, and wellness for military families.

“JVS SoCal is proud to be at the forefront of this important mission, standing alongside the Department of Veterans Affairs in our shared commitment to empowering the brave women and men who have served this country,” Fedrick said.
