The Disability and Assessment division serves hundreds of clients annually through the California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) or self-referral throughout LA, San Bernardino, Riverside, and Orange Counties. Our staff works with all populations including individuals with disabilities, veterans, refugees, immigrants, welfare-to-work recipients, homeless, victims of violence, opportunity youth, and career professionals in transition.

JVS SoCal’s Disability and Assessment services are fully CARF accredited, and have earned the Social Security Administration’s Ticket to Work award,

Comprehensive evaluation

This gives us a look at your skills, aptitudes, and interests to determine the best career step and assist you in obtaining employment.

Vocational Evaluation is a comprehensive process that uses a range of work activities, both real and simulated, to assess your capabilities, and can include medical, psychological, social, vocational, cultural and economic so we can be effective in helping you achieve your goals.

Employment services

We’ll create an Individual Service Plan, help with your resume, do mock interviews, measure job aptitudes, and provide individualized employment plans and job search assistance.

Once you’re employed, there will be a year of general case management which includes supportive services. This service is done in person only.

Length of evaluation

The length of your evaluation is determined by your counselor or referral agency and is based on your individual needs and the goals of the evaluation. •

We require at least some in-person evaluation in order to provide a comprehensive assessment and employment plan. We do offer a hybrid option but do require approximately 40% in-person evaluation when deemed necessary.

Our assessment includes five steps:

  1. Orientation
  2. Individual evaluation plan development
  3. Initial assessments
  4. Staff recommendation after assessment
  5. Exit interviews, including a written report submitted to a referral agency

We want to ensure that you get the best service possible, and so the length of your evaluation is determined by your counselor or referral agency, and is based on your individual needs and goals.

A message from our donors

“As we learned more about the warmth, inclusiveness and integrity of the organization, we knew we wanted to lend our support. We are particularly interested in programs for people with special needs to become self-sufficient and successful. We found that opportunity at JVS with their Disabilities and Assessment program and wonderful staff. It has been a pleasure to see our philanthropic investment make a difference in the lives of these individuals.”
